By News Staff

Winnipeg police say a 12-year-old girl is recovering after a stabbing at a house party in the city’s North End early Tuesday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called to the home on Flora Avenue near Andrews Street around 1:45 a.m. for a gun call with a reported stabbing.

Officers arrived to find the 12-year-old victim stabbed. They provided emergency medical care before she was taken to hospital in unstable condition. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.

WPS investigators believe teenagers were at the house party when a 13-year-old girl was “ousted” from the home.

She allegedly later returned armed with a knife and in the company of a 38-year-old woman armed with an imitation firearm.

“They forcibly entered the home, confronted the residents at gunpoint, and attempted to stab one of them,” WPS said in a news release.

Police say the altercation continued and the 12-year-old was stabbed. That’s when the suspects fled the home.

Police say the woman was found a few blocks away on Pritchard Avenue near Charles Street. They say an imitation firearm was seized.

She is facing multiple charges including breaking and entering, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. She was released on an undertaking.

The 13-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Magnus Avenue near Chudley Street, according to police.

She is facing breaking and entering, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon charges. She was released on an undertaking.

The WPS major crimes unit is investigating.
