Yellow Pages Canada targeted in cyberattack

Yellow Pages Canada says the personal information of employees and some customers has been leaked after a cyberattack.
In an email to CityNews, a company spokesperson confirmed it was targeted.
“As soon as we became aware of the attack, we immediately commenced a thorough investigation into this issue with the assistance of external cyber security experts to contain the incident and ensure that we had secured our systems,” the company said.
“Based on our investigation to date, we have reason to believe that the unauthorized third party stole certain personal information from servers containing YP employee data and limited data relating to our business customers.”
Yellow Pages adds everyone affected has been notified, and it has been “reporting to all appropriate privacy regulatory authorities regarding this incident.” It is not clear how many people were affected by the data breach.
“Substantially all of our services have now been restored,” the email concluded.

According to its website, Yellow Pages primarily helps businesses with digital marketing opportunities. In the early 20th century, it was among the first companies in Canada to print phone directories, eventually becoming a public corporation in 2003.
It’s the latest Canadian agency to be targeted by a cyberattack. Earlier this year, book retailer Indigo was the target of a data leak, compromising the personal information of current and former employers.
In December 2022, SickKids Hospital in Toronto reported a cybersecurity incident that affected its websites. No personal information was leaked, the hospital confirmed.
