Investigators believe the 37-year-old driver and his 28-year-old female passenger, also from Winnipeg, were driving northbound in the southbound lane when they collided with a southbound vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Winnipeg man.
The 37-year-old driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
His passenger and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police say.
RCMP do not believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
Police are investigating.
