Wet snow is on the way for Winnipeg and southeastern Manitoba, Environment Canada is warning.
While the Red River Valley is expected to be spared from the worst conditions, scattered rain showers with wet snow will fall on Winnipeg Thursday.
The wet snow is slated to fall from Brandon to the Ontario border.
“While plenty of melting and compaction will occur, snowfall rates will be intense at times on Thursday so snowfall warnings will likely be forthcoming for some regions,” according to an Environment Canada special weather statement.
Environment Canada predicts the snow will persist through much of Friday as well.
The weather authority is calling it a “second disturbance” that’s pushing northward out of the United States.
Below normal temperatures are forecast in the wake of the weather system.
Meanwhile heavy snowfall – 15-40 centimetres – with blowing snow is expected to fall on southwestern Manitoba beginning Wednesday and into Thursday.
Winds as strong as 70 km/h are in the forecast.
