Police trying to identify homicide victim after partial remains found at Fort Douglas Park

Winnipeg police are turning to the public in the hopes of identifying the homicide victim whose partial remains were found along the riverbank at Fort Douglas Park on Saturday.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s homicide unit says it has yet to identify the woman.

Investigators believe she is over 20 years old, between five-foot tall and five-foot-five with a “slight” build.

Police are not clear on the victim’s ethnicity.

They say she has short dark hair with both ears doubled-pierced and a “C” section scar.

The WPS says she has no upper or lower teeth; investigators believe they were previously missing. It’s not known if she wore dentures.

“We need help identifying this victim,” Wade McDonald with the homicide unit said at a press conference Tuesday.

Officers responded to a report of possible human remains in the area of Curtis Street and Higgins Avenue Saturday around 1:30 p.m.

McDonald says a ground search team and a dive team worked long hours to locate more of the woman’s remains. He says the crime scene was about 3,000 metres in length.

“We have not discovered everything,” the homicide unit detective told reporters.

McDonald did not know how long the woman’s remains were near the Fort Douglas Park area.

Police believe it is a standalone homicide not linked to other events.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
