Armoured security truck crash hurts 2, items allegedly stolen: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police are investigating a single-vehicle collision involving an armoured security truck that may have led to a theft.

Around 1 a.m. on Thursday, WPS responded to a report that the security truck had struck a concrete pillar of a pedestrian overpass while driving along Portage Avenue at Carlton Street.

After hitting the pillar, the truck flipped. The driver became trapped inside while the passenger managed to free himself.

Officers say Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services were able to extract the driver, and both occupants of the security truck were taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Investigators believe someone may have approached the truck after it flipped, and then they stole some property before fleeing.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
