January collision on Trans-Canada put 2 WPS officers, Alberta man in hospital: RCMP

Manitoba RCMP is investigating a collision that occurred at the end of January that put three people, including two Winnipeg police officers, in the hospital.

Mounties say around 5:30 p.m. on January 31, officers in Steinbach and Falcon Beach received a report of a collision along Highway 1 near Prawda, Manitoba.

An initial investigation determined that a car heading west hit another car that was pulling onto the highway from a parked position.

The RCMP says the driver of the first vehicle, a 22-year-old man from Alberta, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second vehicle was occupied by two on-duty WPS officers, police say. Both were also taken to a hospital for injuries they suffered.

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba has been notified and is monitoring the RCMP investigation.
