Winnipeg police investigating pair of stabbing homicides

Winnipeg police are starting off the month by investigating a pair of homicides in the city.

Just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) responded to a hotel on Main Street after receiving a report that a man was looking for help after being stabbed.

At the time, he also reported that another person in an apartment on Selkirk Avenue had also been stabbed.

When police and paramedics arrived at the hotel, they treated the man and he was taken to hospital in critical condition where he was later upgraded to stable.

Officers also attended the apartment along Selkirk Avenue, where they found the second victim in a suite. He died at the scene.

WPS says the homicide unit has since taken over the investigation.

A couple of hours later, a patrol unit was flagged down near Martha Street and Henry Avenue to assist a man that was reportedly bleeding.

When officers got to the man, he was unresponsive and appeared to be stabbed. The officers began CPR until paramedics arrived.

The man was taken to hospital in critical condition where police say he later died from his injuries.

Around 4 a.m., WPS says officers located a man believed to be the suspect in the stabbing, and he was taken into custody. The suspect has since been charged with second-degree murder.

Winnipeg police say no connections between the two homicides have been made and they are being investigated as separate incidents.

If anyone has any information on either homicide, they are asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
