Four injured during fire at Winnipeg’s Victoria Hospital Monday

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) confirmed four people were injured during a fire at the Victoria Hospital Monday morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services responded to the fire, which started on the 6th floor of the hospital around 10:20 a.m., and successfully extinguished it.

“The fire was very quickly put out, but set off sprinklers, and as a result, caused some flooding and some electrical issues which has impacted a number of floors at the hospital,” said the WRHA in a statement.

The WRHA also confirmed all 21 patients on the floor were safely evacuated and have since been temporarily transferred to another hospital.

One patient and three hospital staff members were admitted into urgent care for injuries sustained during the incident.

“Victoria Hospital will remain open to those with appointments and seeking care, but at this time visitors are not allowed in to the facility. Visitation will resume tomorrow morning. Families of patients are being contacted.”

The WRHA added that anyone with additional questions regarding their appointments can contact the hospital at 204-477-3419 or pcro@vgh.mb.ca.

The WFPS has also confirmed an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
