Woman charged in New Year’s Eve stabbing in Winnipeg

Winnipeg police have charged a 23-year-old woman following a stabbing on New Year’s Eve.

WPS say around 5:15 p.m. officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a home on Maryland Street.

When officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman suffering from a stab wound and provided medical assistance.

Not long later, paramedics arrived and the woman was taken to hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery.

Police say a woman believed to be the suspect was located and taken into custody.

“During the arrest, the suspect physically assaulted one of the officers. The officer was uninjured as a result of the assault,” said WPS in a statement.

The woman has since been charged for aggravated assault, assaulting a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
