Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood passes away at 81

Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has passed away at age 81, surrounded by family in Clapham, South London, announced via her Twitter today.

 

Known for her punk fashion phenomenon of the 1970s, Westwood’s ​​multi-decade career was a pillar of British fashion with androgynous designs, style and also was an environmental activist and brought climate change awareness to the catwalk.

The Twitter post read “Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life. Her innovation and impact over the last 60 years has been immense and will continue into the future.”

She leaves behind husband and creative partner Andreas Kronthaler, and was a mother to two sons, Derek Westwood and Joseph Corré.
