Winnipeg could get up to 30 cm of snow this week

Snow crews are gearing up for a snowfall in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg and parts of southern Manitoba are expected to get 20-30 cm of snow between Tuesday evening and the weekend.

Environment Canada says the storm, which started in the Colorado area, may bring freezing rain to some areas as well as snow.

The city says crews are monitoring road conditions and are ready to salt and sand the roads.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada is forecasting;

  • A high of 0ºC with an overnight low of -2ºC and snowing on Wednesday;
  • A high of -1ºC and an overnight low of -8ºC and snowing on Thursday;
  • A high of -8ºC and an overnight low of -13ºC and snowing on Friday;
  • And a high of -11ºC with an overnight low of -21ºC on Saturday.

The annual winter route parking ban is still in effect, so drivers can’t park along the snow-clearing routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

More information on winter routes can be found on the City of Winnipeg website.
