Winnipeg police say woman acted in self-defence in fatal assault in May

Winnipeg police say no charges will be laid against a woman in connection to a fatal assault in May, saying she acted in self-defence.

WPS says just after 10 p.m. on May 3, officers responded to reports of an assault in a parkade in The Forks.

When police arrived, they found a 27-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the man confronted a woman, and an altercation occurred, which ultimately lead to his death.

WPS arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection to the fatal assault, but investigators determined that no charges would be laid, saying it “would otherwise be an unlawful act was committed to defend herself, which was considered reasonable under the circumstances.”
