Manitoba RCMP charge four teens after house party turned violent

By The Canadian Press

Manitoba RCMP have made four arrests and are expecting more after officers had to break up a large house party last month north of Winnipeg.

Mounties say that when they were called to the home in East St. Paul, Man., several people jumped on two police vehicles causing significant damage.

Three males and one female, between the ages of 16 and 18, have been charged with mischief and are scheduled to appear in court next year.

Police say they have identified other suspects using video captured and published online, as well as video from police vehicles.

Officers also intervened and stopped two males from allegedly sexually assaulting a female youth before fleeing.

RCMP are still investigating the assault.

Police responded to numerous calls about a house party involving several hundred youth.

When officers arrived they say multiple partygoers jumped on two RCMP vehicles and proceeded to kick in a windshield on one and badly damaged the roof and hood of another.

Some in attendance also hurled racial slurs at visible minority officers, spit on police and launched fireworks at police and their vehicles.

“We made it very clear that the behaviour exhibited that evening was unacceptable. We anticipate that every individual who took part in damaging police vehicles will be arrested and charged,” Supt. John Duff said in a news release.

“I have also reviewed video where a vile racial slur is directed at a RCMP officer. I have spoken with the officer and expressed my dismay that he had to endure such hateful language from those in attendance.”
