Winnipeg police charge five in pair of overnight traffic stops

Five people have been charged and two guns have been seized by Winnipeg police following a pair of overnight traffic stops.

Winnipeg police say around 9:30 p.m. while conducting a traffic stop near at Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street, officers noticed one of the people in the vehicle had outstanding warrants. Police arrested them and searched the vehicle.

During the search, officers found an improvised firearm with a couple of rounds of ammunition.

The 38-year-old with the outstanding warrants was charged with possession of a firearm and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.

In a second traffic stop, police say officers pulled over a vehicle they believe was stolen at around 1 a.m. along Redwood Avenue.

Four people between the ages of 25 and 37 were taken into custody and are facing firearm-related charges.
