Young people are having less sex but why are young men the focus?

By The Big Story

In today’s Big Story podcast, for years, studies have shown that young people aren’t having as much sex as in generations past. But a recent study sparked a discussion around what young men, in particular, might do if they can’t find a partner.

The numbers were used as the basis for the increasing number of shootings in the United States, and even a proposal of a “right to sex.” But what do the numbers actually say? And why, when everyone is having less sex, are young men the focus here?

Jude Ellison S. Doyle, is a feminist author of Trainwreck and Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers. They joined The Big Story to discuss why sexlessness is not an excuse for vile behaviour.

“We just sort of assume that if young men who we unconsciously think of as young, straight, CIS white men aren’t getting everything they want, something has gone terribly wrong,” said Doyle.
