19-year-old stabbed in ‘unprovoked’ attack among 4 stabbings this weekend: WPS

Winnipeg police say a 19-year-old man is in unstable condition following surgery to treat an “unprovoked” stabbing on Main Street early Saturday morning.

Police say it was one of four stabbings in Winnipeg over the weekend.

MAIN STREET

Investigators believe a suspect approached the victim on Main Street near Jarvis Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and “stabbed him in an unprovoked manner before fleeing on foot.”

Officers were called and found the victim with upper-body injuries on Stella Walk near King Street. They provided emergency medical care using a chest seal.

The victim was then taken to hospital in unstable condition and underwent surgery. He remains in unstable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The major crimes unit is investigating.

SHERBROOK STREET

That alleged stabbing occurred around the same time as another on Saturday.

Police believe a 31-year-old man was approached by several suspects on Sherbrook Street near Ellice Avenue before 1:20 a.m. The suspects allegedly attacked the man “with an unknown object” and robbed him before fleeing on foot.

Police found the victim with “superficial” upper-body injuries. He was treated in hospital.

The major crimes unit is investigating.

AUSTIN STREET

Police believe another stabbing occurred within that same hour.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a 35-year-old woman was stabbed in the lower body on Austin Street near Lorne Avenue around 2 a.m.

She was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

The major crimes unit is investigating.

KATE STREET

The weekend’s fourth stabbing, according to police, took place early Sunday morning around 1 a.m. on Kate Street near Bannatyne Avenue.

Police say a 21-year-old man was stabbed in the upper body.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.

WPS says the victim declined further police assistance.
