Winnipeg police say two men attempted to rob a 25-year-old man before physically assaulting him in Elmwood on Saturday afternoon.
Investigators believe two suspects approached a man on Stadacona Street near Talbot Avenue around 4:15 p.m. They reportedly demanded cigarettes and the man’s groceries.
“When their request was denied, the suspects proceeded to physically attack the victim in an unprovoked manner before fleeing on foot,” WPS said in a release.
Police don’t believe the victim and suspects knew each other.
Officers say they arrived on scene to find the victim suffering from upper-body injuries. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Police say they arrested the suspects shortly after on Henderson Highway near Hespeler Avenue.
A 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were charged with robbery.
Both were released on undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
The charges have not been proven in court.
