Second man arrested after last week’s West End shooting

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say they’ve made a second arrest in connection with a shooting in West End last week.

Police say a 20-year-old was detained and charged with aggravated assault. WPS says the suspect was taken into custody Monday in relation to an unrelated firearm incident.

Police say they first received a report of a shooting Sept. 29 around 3:30 a.m. on Sherbrooke Street near Ellice Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a man in his 50s injured outside a home. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, and later upgraded to stable.

Investigators believe a group “forced their way into a suite when the victim was sprayed with bear spray and shot.”

An 18-year-old suspect had already been charged with aggravated assault and multiple weapons-related charges.
