Manitoba offering second dose of monkeypox vaccine

By News Staff

Second doses of the monkeypox vaccine are being made available in Manitoba.

The province says eligible residents can begin booking appointments for a second dose starting Thursday at 9 a.m.

Second doses should be administered at least four weeks after the first, the province specified in a release.

Manitoba has reported one confirmed case of the virus and says 997 first doses of the vaccine had been provided as of Sunday.

Manitoba Health says it’s expanding eligibility for preventive monkeypox vaccination in line with recent recommendations by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization.

It now includes gay, bisexual or other men who have sex with men and have had anonymous sex, or sex with two more partners in the past 90 days, as well as all sex workers.
