Police seize 4 rifles, stolen tools from storage locker on Waverley

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say they seized weapons and stolen tools from a storage locker from the city’s southwest last month.

Police say they initially learned in August of several weapons stored within the storage locker on Waverley Street near Taylor Avenue.

The property crime unit identified a 30-year-old suspect who had access to the unit.

Police say the investigation led them to believe a commercial property on Tache Avenue near Notre Dame Street was broken into between March 31 and April 1, and several tools were apparently stolen from within.

WPS also determined a different commercial property, this time on De la Seigneurie, was broken into between July 4 and July 28. Several tools were allegedly stolen from that location too.

Police say they executed a search warrant on the storage locker on Aug. 15. They seized:

  • Winchester ’94 30/30 break-action rifle
  • Husqvarna 30/06 bolt-action rifle
  • Parker Hale 7mm bolt-action rifle
  • Loaded Crossman Bushmaster BB rifle (modified to hold rifle ammunition)
  • Hilti Rotating Laser
  • Dewalt 30-amp Battery Charger
  • Hilti Concrete Drill
  • Weiser Deadbolt Control Smart Keys (box of 12)

The suspect was not located at the time of the search warrant, so the provincial court issued a warrant for his arrest.

On Tuesday around 7 p.m., investigators placed the suspect under arrest. He was at the Milner Ridge Correctional Facility in Beausejour on an unrelated matter.

The suspect was charged with various weapon-related offences. He remains in custody.
