Two charged in multiple alleged robberies in south Winnipeg Monday night

Two people are facing various charges following multiple alleged robberies on Monday night.

Winnipeg police say just before midnight on Sep. 19, they received reports of a man and a woman – both believed to be armed – chasing a man near St. Mary’s Road.

Officers say when they arrived they were not able to find the victim, but were flagged by a witness who said they saw a woman standing on a car.

Officers continued to look around the area and found a man who told officers “a woman stepped out in front of his vehicle and jumped on it. A man then approached and robbed him of his car at gunpoint,” said WPS in a statement.

“While officers were on the scene with the victim, the stolen vehicle drove past and crashed into a nearby utility pole. Two suspects fled the car, but with the support of AIR1 and ground units, both were located attempting to hide in the neighbourhood. Two weapons were recovered – a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle and a replica airsoft handgun.”

WPS also determined a separate alleged robbery took place before the car theft. In that incident, a man in his 30s is believed to have been held at gunpoint. After being confronted he tried to run, at which point shots were fired at him. No injuries were reported.

A 27-year-old man is in custody and has been charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm, possession of a weapon and other related charges.

A 26-year-old woman was also charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon. She was released with certain conditions mandated by the Criminal Code.
