Catalytic converters most stolen property in Winnipeg this year – more than liquor

By The Canadian Press

Winnipeg police statistics say vehicle accessories, including catalytic converters, have replaced liquor as the most stolen property.

More than 17-hundred reported thefts were made to the city’s police in 2021, with the trend continuing this year.

The service’s property crime unit previously launched a four-month investigation called “Project Precious,” named after the precious metals found in catalytic converters.

After that, the province introduced a bill requiring scrap metal dealers to follow strict regulations when buying and selling certain metal products.
