‘Without provocation’: Winnipeg man accused of stabbing three men last month

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with three stabbings last month.

Police say the three separate incidents – in which three victims were hospitalized – occurred in the afternoon and evening of Aug. 15.

Princess Street

The Winnipeg Police Service says the first stabbing took place on Princess Street near William Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

The suspect, who was riding a bike, allegedly yelled a racial slur at a man in his 40s and stabbed him in the lower body “without provocation” before riding away.

Police provided medical care to the victim, which included the application of a tourniquet. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Disraeli Freeway

Police believe that same suspect, still on a bike, stabbed another man in his 40s in the abdomen around 3 p.m. near Disraeli Freeway and Main Street. The victim was hospitalized in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.

Man Street

Later that same evening – around 7:30 p.m. – Winnipeg police say a third man in his 40s was stabbed on Main Street near Chief Peguis Trail. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police say they located the suspect nearby.

All three victims told police they did not know the suspect.

The suspect was initially charged with weapons-related offences in connection with the stabbing on Main Street near Chief Peguis Trail.

Investigators now believe he was involved in the earlier stabbings on Princess Street and Disraeli Freeway.

On Monday, the WPS charged him with two additional “assault with a weapon” and “possession of a weapon” charges.

He remained in custody.
