RCMP officer charged in incident at Winnipeg Airport

An RCMP officer has been charged for using excessive force while making an arrest at the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport on August 1.

The province’s police watchdog was notified of the incident on Aug. 11.

“There are reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred and [the IIU] has authorized a charge of assault under section 266 of the Criminal Code against one of the officers involved,” said the IIU in a statement.

The accused officer will be in court on September 26.
