How to ruggedize your life and prepare for … whatever comes next

By The Big Story

We are in a planetary crisis. At this point, we’re no longer wondering if our comfortable lives will be unscathed. The questions are how much, will our lives change, and where will they change the least?

People with lots of money are already buying property in places they believe will be safe from disaster. You can Google “best places to live in climate crisis” and find a lot of listicles. But very few of us have the money to buy everything we’ll need, or move across the world.

Alex Steffen is a climate futurist, and the author of The Snap Forward newsletter. He joined us on the Big Story to explain what ruggedization means and discusses how we all can prepare for disasters associated with the planetary crisis.

“We don’t actually know with real predictability how bad and in what forms disasters are coming for us. One of the things we’re seeing is unprecedented conditions happening at the same time” he said.

So how can you prepare for whatever comes next in the safest and most sensible way possible?
