Thunder Bay man facing over 100 charges in alleged string of robberies around Winnipeg

Winnipeg police have charged a man believed to be linked to a string of robberies between May and August.

Police say in that time, multiple houses and apartment complexes were broken into, including a seniors’ home. Roughly $120,000 of property damage was reported and $12,000 in stolen property.

Brent Vernon Arksey, 33, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, is facing 83 charges of mischief under $5,000 along with another 42 other theft-related charges.

Winnipeg Police say multiple locations are linked to the suspect, including a senior’s apartment on El Tassi Drive on May 26, where five vehicle windows were smashed and property was stolen.

Condominiums on Waterfront Drive on June 4, saw 12 vehicle windows smashed, and more property stolen.

Between July 5 and Aug. 10, police reported several apartments and condominiums saw vehicle windows smashed and property was stolen.

The locations are St. Anne’s Road, Waterford Green Common, Windmill Way, Des Hivernants Boulevard North, Inkster Boulevard and Keewatin Street, Murray Road, Pembina Highway, Portage Avenue, River Avenue, and Coopers Town Road.

In August, St. Anne’s Road, Lyra Gate, and Henderson Highway saw a total of 13 vehicle windows smashed, along with property being stolen.

Police report various items were stolen, including wallets and credit cards. A pizza delivery driver was robbed of his wallet and threatened with bear spray in the area of Inkster Boulevard and Keewatin Street.

  • July 12, 2022, an apartment on Waterford Green Common;
    • Two vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen;
  • July 20, 2022, an apartment on Windmill Way;
    • Seven vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen;
  • July 21, 2022, an apartment on Des Hivernants Boulevard North;
    • Nine vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen;
  • July 22, 2022, in the area of Inkster Boulevard and Keewatin Street;
    • A pizza delivery driver was robbed of his wallet and threatened with bear spray;
  • July 22, 2022, a condominium complex on Murray Road;
    • Fifteen vehicle windows were smashed;
  • July 24, 2022, property building along Pembina Highway;
    • Five vehicle windows were smashed;
  • July 26, 2022, an apartment block on Portage Avenue;
    • Five vehicle windows were smashed;
  • July 27, 2022, an apartment on River Avenue;
    • Three vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen;
  • July 29, 2022, a residential complex on Coopers Town Road;
    • Eight vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen;
  • August 5, 2022, a condominium on St. Anne’s Road;
    • Five vehicle windows were smashed;
  • August 9, 2022, an apartment on Lyra Gate;
    • Three vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen;
  • August 10, 2022, two apartments along the Henderson Highway;
    • Five vehicle windows were smashed, and property was stolen.
