Bank ATM on Portage Avenue catches fire overnight: WFPS

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says crews needed to put out an overnight fire inside an ATM at a strip mall bank in the Sturgeon Creek neighbourhood.

The WFPS says it responded to a fire alarm system activation around 4:30 a.m. Sunday coming from a bank on Portage Avenue near Sturgeon Road.

Police crews were first at the scene and noticed smoke inside the vestibule of the bank.

When fire crews arrived, they extinguished the blaze using a carbon dioxide extinguisher.

No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.

Home on Stella Avenue catches fire

Earlier Sunday morning, around 2:15 a.m., WFPS crews were called to a fire in a two-storey house on Stella Avenue near McGregor Street.

Crews say they contained the fire to the main floor and the rear of the home.

The fire was under control by 2:35 a.m.

No injuries were reported as there were no occupants in the home.

The fire is under investigation.
