Monkeypox vaccine will be available soon in Manitoba

The monkeypox vaccine will soon be available to Manitobans via appointment.

Manitoba Health announced Thursday that Manitobans over 18, who believe they meet the eligibility criteria and have not been exposed to monkeypox, can book an appointment.

Vaccine eligibility requirements:

Transgender, cisgender or two-spirit individuals who self-identify as belonging to the gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) community and who meet at least one of the following:

  • Anyone that has been diagnosed with an STI in the last six months;
  • Anyone planning to have sex outside of a mutually monogamous relationship or have had sex outside of a mutually monogamous relationship in the past 90 days;
  • Anyone who has attended, worked, or volunteered at a venue for sexual contact (e.g., bath houses, sex clubs), may be planning to;
  • Anyone who is a close contact of a suspect case of monkeypox may also be eligible.

At his time there have been no confirmed cases of monkeypox in Manitoba.

Anyone interested in getting the vaccine must call Health Link at 204-788-8200 or toll-free 1-888-315-9257 to review eligibility and book an appointment.
