Winnipeg fire crews battle two separate blazes in city’s North End Sunday

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called to a fire at a two-storey multi-family home on Manitoba Avenue near Aikins Street shortly after 7 a.m.

Seven occupants were still in the home – from which heavy black smoke was emerging – and crews helped them out. No injuries were reported.

The fire was under control by 7:34 a.m. Its cause is under investigation.

Less than three hours later, at 10 a.m., the WFPS was called to a fire in a vacant garage on Lulu Street off Higgins Avenue.

Crews say they arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the garage. It was under control by 10:20 a.m.

No occupants were found, and no injuries were reported.
