Winnipeg bagel shop feeding homeless through new tip-matching initiative

A Winnipeg bagel joint is doing its part to tackle homelessness in the city.

Winnipeg’s Hudson Bagels is providing free food to those in need through a new initiative.

The company has a customer tip or voucher buying program whereby the owners match the donations to help feed the homeless population across the city.

Co-owner Jessica Wylychenko says they feed around five to seven people per day through the initative.

“We think it’s really important and from a place of food accessibility and safe spaces, for someone to be able to walk into a space and have something to eat, not feel judged, not feel rushed out, just feel like a regular guest within our establishment, that’s out goal,” said Wylychenko.

“We want anyone who walk our doors to feel like they are welcome.”
