Adult mosquito fogging program to begin Sunday night in Winnipeg

Winnipeg is activating its adult nuisance mosquito fogging program after a spike was detected in bug populations.

The city says in a news release that the citywide rating on its Adulticiding Factor Analysis, which includes trap counts, moved from medium to high on Saturday.

Fogging begins Sunday at 9:30 p.m. in selected areas, weather permitting, and will continue until Monday morning at 6:30 a.m.

Crews are expected to treat the following areas:

  • Kilcona Park, River East, Springfield North, Valhalla
  • Kildonan Drive, Rossmere A
  • Eaglemere, Grassie, McLeod Industrial, North Transcona Yards, Springfield South, Valley Gardens
  • Munroe West, Rossmere B
  • Chalmers, Glenelm
  • East Elmwood, Kildonan Crossing, Munroe East, Talbot Grey, Tyne Tees
  • Griffin, Meadows, Peguis, Radisson, Regent, Victoria West
  • Cantebury Park, Kern Park, Kildare Redonda, Transcona North
  • Dugald, Melrose, Mission Gardens, Transcona South, Transcona Yards, St. Boniface Industrial Park
  • Inkster – Faraday, Luxton, St. John’s, St. John’s Park
  • Garden City, Leila – McPhillips Triangle, Margaret Park, Templeton – Sinclair
  • Jefferson, Kildonan Park, Seven Oaks
  • Amber Trails, Leila North, Riverbend, Rivergrove, Rosser – Old Kildonan, West Kildonan Industrial

Residents can apply for a 90-metre buffer zone in order to exempt their property.

The city says insecticide DeltaGard 20EW will be used in accordance with federally approved label directions and will be applied by licensed applicators.

The Manitoba government says on its website that the insecticide was approved in May 2017 in Canada for wide area mosquito control.
