Fatal crash involving crop-dusting plane near Portage la Prairie under investigation

Police say the pilot of a crop-dusting plane is dead after a crash in southwestern Manitoba on Tuesday.

RCMP say the 54-year-old pilot from Morden was pronounced dead on the scene.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a possible plane crash around 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday about 18 kilometres southwest of Southport, just outside Portage la Prairie.

They say they arrived on scene with EMS services and found the plane had crashed in a field.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has deployed a team of investigators.

The agency says it will gather more information about the accident and assess exactly what happened.
