Manitoba creates $100M arts, culture, sports fund to offset rising costs

By The Canadian Press

Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson has officially launched a $100-million fund to help sport, culture and heritage groups provide programs in the face of rising costs.

The Arts, Culture and Sport in Community Fund will provide $34 million worth of grants for projects this year.

Applications for this year’s intake will open Aug. 16.

Stefanson says the investment will help inspire Manitobans and foster creativity and innovation in local arts, culture and sports initiatives.

“Manitoba artists, ethnocultural organizations and athletes create content and deliver activities and engagement opportunities that enhance education, physical wellness and mental well-being,” said Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Andrew Smith in a statement.

“This new fund will help support, promote and celebrate Manitobans by increasing access to a wide variety of spaces and programing including sport facilities, festivals, museums and galleries.”
