The tenants and businesses that occupy the 34 floors of the Richardson building will not be returning to work until at least Friday.
According to the building’s property manager a fire in the lower concourse significantly damaged the building’s main electrical system, causing widespread outages. No injuries were reported.
The power outage impacted radio antennas located on the buildings roof, knocking stations including CBC FM radio off the air. That service has since been restored.
In a statement, Craig Dunsire, the General Manager for the Richardson Building says:
“The building remains without power while crews work diligently to repair and restore the electrical service. Limited back-up power is in place to ensure the operation of basic security and life safety requirements.”
Tenants CityNews spoke to, say they aren’t expected to return to the building until Friday at the earliest.
