‘Freedom Convoy’ organizer Pat King to appear in court for bail review today

By Michael Ranger and The Canadian Press

“Freedom Convoy” organizer Pat King is expected to appear in an Ottawa court on Wednesday for a bail review.

He will return to the courtroom after his bail review in April came to an abrupt end when his lawyer’s computer was apparently hacked.

The following day, the Crown announced King would face additional perjury and obstruction of justice charges. The details of the testimony that led to the allegations are protected by a publication ban.

King has since brought in new representation to defend him and argue for his release.

He was initially arrested in February on charges related to his involvement in the protests against pandemic restrictions that occupied downtown Ottawa for three straight weeks.

Fellow “Freedom Convoy” organizer Tamara Lich was denied bail last week after the Crown accused her of breaching one of her existing conditions.

Lich was arrested in February for her role in the protest, but she was eventually released with a long list of conditions, including not to communicate with key convoy organizers except through a lawyer or in the presence of a lawyer.

She was arrested again last week after appearing in a photo with a fellow convoy organizer.

Lich is expected to return to court on Thursday.
