Winnipeg’s own decorated Olympian Cindy Klassen was honoured Monday, in a ceremony to celebrate her induction to Canada’s Walk of Fame with the unveiling of her Hometown Star.

First awarded in 2019, a replica plaque of her star in Toronto will be placed at Winnipeg’s Gateway Recreation Centre.

With the honour comes a $10,000 donation to a charitable organization of her choice.

Since retiring from speed skating in 2015, Klassen has been a coach, a Calgary police officer, a mother to daughter Phoebe, and another on the way.

“This is incredible, it’s so overwhelming, and it’s just so special to come back here and celebrate here in Winnipeg… it’s a true honour,” expressed Cindy Klassen.
