Winnipeg man injured three people by crashing stolen vehicle, then bit officer during arrest: WPS

Police say a 28-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a car, crashing it at an intersection before biting his arresting officer on Friday evening.

Police say the suspect was screaming when he jumped onto the hood of a car that was stopped near Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street shortly before 6:45 p.m.

He then reportedly dove headfirst through the vehicle’s passenger window and punched the driver in the face.

Police say the driver left the vehicle, at which point the suspect drove away with it.

The suspect was apparently driving fast and collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Arlington Street and Logan Avenue.

WPS says the three adult occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital as a result. Two of the victims sustained serious injuries, but they were later upgraded to stable.

A second parked car was damaged as a result of the collision.

Police say they arrived on the scene to arrest the suspect. The man then allegedly bit one of the officers “on the upper body.” The officer was treated in hospital as a result.

The suspect has been charged with robbery, operation of a conveyance while impaired (by BAC or drugs) and assaulting a peace officer.

He was released on an undertaking.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
