Canadian actor allegedly wanted to kill Justin Trudeau after fatally shooting mother

A Canadian actor known for starring in the popular hit show Riverdale allegedly plotted to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he fatally shot his mother in 2020.
A sentencing hearing for 24-year-old Ryan Grantham began on Monday in the British Columbia Supreme Court. The actor shot and killed his 64-year-old mother at home in March 2020.
According to Complex Canada, the B.C. court heard Grantham plotted the killing and recorded a video of his mother’s lifeless body after the alleged murder.
It’s believed that 24 hours after shooting his mother, the 24-year-old loaded his car with three guns, ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails and directions to Trudeau’s family home in Ottawa.
Grantham didn’t follow through and eventually turned himself in to the police in B.C., where he confessed to his mother’s murder. Grantham’s sister discovered their mother’s body on April 1, 2020.
In a police statement, Grantham allegedly said he wanted to kill Trudeau and considered mass killings, including one at Simon Fraser University, where he was a student.
Grantham pleaded guilty to second-degree murder earlier this year after initially being charged with first-degree murder.
Second-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence, and the period of parole ineligibility ranges from 10 to 25 years.
Born and raised in B.C., Grantham’s other notable acting roles included the 2009 film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and starred in Diary of a Wimpy Kid a year later.
