Winnipeg celebrates return of in-person Pride parade

Thousands of people took to the streets Sunday to celebrate the return of the in-person Pride parade.

Wearing bright colours and waving rainbow flags, Winnipeggers gathered at the Manitoba legislature building.

Organizers say gathering at the legislature is is a nod to the first Pride rally in 1987.

They then marched in the parade along Memorial Boulevard, Portage Avenue and Main Street on a bright, sunny day in the city.

Several large floats decorated in rainbow colours made their way through the downtown parade route.

Road closures were in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Marchers then made their way to the Forks, where the festivities continued with music and entertainment.
