Winnipeg man stabbed at child’s birthday party among six stabbings during May long weekend

A violent long weekend in Winnipeg has left police investigating six separate serious stabbing incidents.

The first incident occurred just after 11 p.m. on Friday. WPS says a 30-year-old man was dropped off at a hospital with severe stab wounds.

Police say they believe the incident happened near a bar in the 800 block of Main Street.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police say they responded to another stabbing call along Main Street near a bar.

In this incident, two women – one in her 30s the other in her 40s – were taken to hospital by EMS in unstable condition. Both women were later upgraded to stable condition.

Two teens and a 37-year-old man were charged with assault-related offences.


In the early morning on Sunday, a 30-year-old man was stabbed at a bar along Osborne Street.

WPS says he was working as security for the bar when he was stabbed. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later upgraded to stable condition.

Also on Sunday, police were called to a home on Alexander Avenue. Reports say a 30-year-old man was taken to hospital after being stabbed at a child’s birthday party.

Later in the evening, a second man who was also at the party arrived at a hospital after being cut.

Police are not investigating this incident, as both men reportedly refused further assistance from WPS.


Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a call on Powers Street of two teens that had been stabbed near a basketball court.

WPS says both were treated on scene before being taken to hospital in unstable condition. Both were later upgraded to stable condition.

The last incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday.

Two men arrived at a hospital with stab wounds. Police believe the incident originally took place near a bar in the 400 block of Main Street.

Winnipeg police say as of May 24, police have responded to roughly 860 incidents involving a possible stabbing.
