JIF peanut butter products recalled due to possible salmonella contamination

A possible salmonella contamination is the reason why the J.M. Smucker Co. announced a voluntary recall of select JIF products sold in Canada on Saturday.

The recall includes several different sizes and flavours of peanut butter, including creamy, crunchy, and dark roast creamy. The brand says the recall is being conducted in partnership with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

This comes after a similar recall was announced south of the border a day before.

The product lot code range for the impacted products, the company says online, is 1274425 – 2140425. Consumers are being told to dispose the products immediately if they have the listed products in their possession, which it adds can be found on its packaging.

 

“Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever,” the company says in a release, “Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.”

It’s also telling those who purchased the products exhibiting these signs after having contact with the product to contact their healthcare providers.
