17-year-old charged with murder

A 17-year-old has been charged with second degree murder relating to an assault that took place in early May.

Winnipeg Police say the 17-year-old, who can’t be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged Tuesday.

WPS say earlier this month, a patrol unit found an injured man along Slaw Rebchuk Bridge. Police treated him and he was taken to hospital where he later died from his wounds.

On top of the second degree murder charge, the teen was also charged with assault relating to a separate incident that took place in early February.

Police say the suspect assaulted two adults in the 300 block of Charles Street. Both adults were seriously injured and were taken to hospital at the time.

The teen has been charged with second degree murder, aggravated assault, breaking & entering, possession of a weapon and failing to comply.

Police add the teen is in custody and the investigation into both assaults is ongoing. If anyone has any information on either, contact police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
