Teenage girl, 16, hospitalized after being accidentally shot: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 16-year-old girl was “accidentally” shot by a 19-year-old Winnipeg man on Tuesday morning.

WPS says the incident occurred in the city’s North End on Selkirk Avenue near Salter Street around 8:45 a.m.

Police say they were responding to an incorrect report of a stabbing when they found the girl with a gunshot wound in her lower body.

They believe the two individuals knew each other and determined the accused fired the gun accidentally.

The girl was taken to hospital in unstable condition. She was later upgraded to stable condition.

A 19-year-old Winnipeg man was taken into custody and faces numerous charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and careless use of firearm.
