IKEA Canada reports data breach impacting 95,000 customers

IKEA Canada says they are aware of a data breach impacting approximately 95,000 individuals.
The furniture giant tells CityNews that some of their customers personal information showed up in the result of “generic search made by a co-worker” sometime between March 1 and March 3 this year.
The information was accessed using the company’s customer database.
“We can confirm that no financial or banking information was accessed,” says an IKEA spokesperson. “The security of our customer’s private information is of utmost importance and we have proactively notified he Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada about this incident.”
“No action is required by our customers. It is always a good idea to stay vigilant with your personal information and stay alert for any suspicious activity.”
The company says they have made updates to their internal processes in an effort to prevent similar events moving forward.
