Women’s health clinic in Winnipeg develops online form for abortion services

A women’s health clinic in Winnipeg says it has developed Manitoba’s only online intake form for abortion care.

The Women’s Health Clinic’s (WHC) new online service is available immediately, the organization said in a release.

The form is designed to streamline the intake process for clients. Previously clients had to leave a voicemail with the clinic. It could take between 3-5 business days for an answer to be provided.

The online form is meant to speed up that process.

“This is just one example of how community health organizations innovate to meet our clients where they’re at, and to simplify the process of accessing critical care,” said Keesha Daniels, the WHC’s manager of health services.

“This will end a cycle of phone tag and allow folks to access care quickly and in the way that best suits them.”

The announcement comes two days after an unprecedented leak of a draft decision from the United States Supreme Court that would strike down the right to legal abortions in that country and leave it up to state governments to make abortion laws.

“In the wake of the news of the potential overturn of Roe v. Wade, making sure abortion access is as easy as it possibly can be is critical,” added Kemlin Nembhard, the WHC’s executive director. “This will help increase access and is a huge step forward in making sure we can deliver care to anyone who needs it.”
