Flooding is expected to continue in Winnipeg for the next few weeks and some properties are expected to get more water later this week.
Based on new data from the province on forecasted flood conditions, the city has identified 27 properties that are at risk of flooding.
The data suggest water levels are expected to get to a minimum of 19 feet near James Avenue between May 5 and 14.
“The City is hand-delivering notices to the affected property owners and will be surveying each of the identified properties to determine the location of potential dikes. We will provide further instructions directly to property owners who may, at some point, be required to build a dike,” said the city in a statement.
“If a property owner has not heard from the City and believes their property is at risk of river flooding, they can contact 311.”
The peak of the Red River water levels is expected to hit the Floodway inlet between May 11 and 14.
The City of Winnipeg and the province say both the Red River Floodway and the Portage Diversion are trying to reduce the risk of flooding, but the risk will remain high for the next few weeks.
