Flood fears ease in Manitoba amid good weather and slow melt, officials say

Fears of spring flooding are easing in Manitoba, thanks to recent weather.

The provincial government says things did not look so rosy in the winter after snowfall amounts reached near-record levels in some areas.

But the past two weeks have seen a slow melt, with above-freezing temperatures during the day and below-freezing temperatures at night.

There has also been little precipitation in recent weeks.

The province says the weather in the coming weeks can still change things, but it appears water will remain well below community dikes in all areas and lake levels will not be of concern.

The province says it still expects to operate the Red River Floodway, which redirects water around Winnipeg, next month.
