Will PCs hang on to Tory stronghold in by-election?

By CityNews Staff

The popularity of Manitoba’s sitting Progressive Conservative government will be but to the test in a by-election this week.

Voters go to the polls Tuesday in Winnipeg’s Fort Whyte Riding, the seat left vacant by former Premier Brian Pallister.

The seat has been a Tory stronghold for years, but recent waning support for Premier Heather Stefanson could play a factor in results.

The by-election includes two candidates who used to play football for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers – Obby Khan for the Tories and Willard Reaves for the Liberals.

The New Democrats are running Trudy Schroeder, a former executive director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. The Green candidate is community organizer Nicolas Geddert, and contractor Patrick Allard is running as an Independent.
