Manitoba to end requirement for front line workers to have COVID-19 vaccine or test

By The Canadian Press

The Manitoba government is ending its requirement for health-care staff, teachers and other front-line workers to either be vaccinated against COVID-19 or undergo frequent testing.

Chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin says the requirement, which took effect in October, is being lifted as of March 1.

He says all signs show the Omicron wave of the pandemic is fading, with fewer people in hospital and in intensive care.

The province had earlier announced that March 1 will mark the end of another rule – one that requires people to show proof of vaccination to enter many public venues.

Health Minister Audrey Gordon says venue operators can continue to demand such proof if they want to, and the province’s proof-of-vaccination app will continue to work.

The Royal Manitoba Theatre Company says it will continue to require proof of vaccination until at least mid-April, and then reassess.
